I ran with music and a water belt with one shot blok. There is something to be said in running knowing that you don’t have enough time to finish your run. I left the front door at 10:22 p.m. last night because of a very very long business meeting until 10 p.m. I ran the entire time with a mentality of “I’m late!”
I’m having trouble finding a meaningful race. There are a lot of these non-certified 5k fun run/walks for local charities, but I’m worried about human pylon dodging and distance measurement.
I’ve stretched out the search to May 1 and found a Road Runners Association Organized race weekend event (3k/5k/10k/half) about 3 hours from here. http://www.krra.org/
I think I need to announce it here. My goal for the Kingston May 1st race will be a sub 30-min final.
!
Nice! That is exactly the kind of run I had yesterday - an "I'm late!" run.
ReplyDeleteSub-30 5k is all yours!
Great run. train hard and you'll hit that goal.
ReplyDeleteMy new theory is the faster I run, the faster I'm done! Good job!
ReplyDeleteThe goal is all yours for the taking. Nice run yesterday!
ReplyDelete11 degrees? Yikes. You've got your goal, I'm sure. Happy training!
ReplyDeleteLove it!! Great work - you are making such great progress. You've got the sub 30.
ReplyDeleteGreat run you had! I love that goal for May! We have hundreds of 5km fun runs but only one official 5km race I know of. I have never run a (the) km race.
ReplyDeleteGreat splits! It's those "awesome" run that come along and help pull you through the not so awesome runs...
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen everything of yours (yet :)) but, from what I HAVE seen, your efforts will definitely be sub-30...no matter what the external factors that you can't control do to influence that. So, train hard and then just go out with a plan that includes having fun and enjoying the moment AND the accomplishment of just being at the start :). But, man, are you a "numbers guy!" -- guess that means that all that number crunching and analytical thinking is fun to you, so, no wonder you are progressing well :).
ReplyDeleteFor some reason, one of your sentences reminded me of "Alice in Wonderland:"
[I ran the entire time with a mentality of “I’m late!”]
...Glad you didn't go down the rabbit hole!"
Shine on. Ann
Great job, Andrew! Isn't it fun to see times coming down!
ReplyDeleteNice work with the run! I have a terrible time hitting my time targets - clearly not a problem you're having.
ReplyDeleteYou really are working hard and clearly you are loving it too! Good job on the tempo.
ReplyDeleteYou can do sub 30! Nice that you were staying consistently under the goal pace.
ReplyDeleteDo you use screen shots to do your tables- or is there another way? I noticed in your last post and would like to put some tables in mine from time to time.
Great effort, Andrew!
SOlid run...above target! Soon temperatures will climb, clothing will shed, and even more seconds will decrease.
ReplyDeleteNice job! It's such a good feeling to be seeing--and feeling--progress, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteHope you can find more good races to put on the calendar.
Maybe you should run all your runs at 10:30p.m. Do you think there's a race that late you can do?? :)
ReplyDeleteI think your goal is reasonable and achievable! Good luck finding the right race!
ReplyDelete5 miles at 10:30 at night!!! Dang now THAT is dedication. Great job on getting out there and getting it done.
ReplyDeletekeep it up, cool daddy! :D

Today's run was an "I'd better be back before the pump guy comes to fix our sump that's spewing waster all over the basement."
ReplyDeleteNice job getting out there so late!!
10:30 pm! Props to you. Sub 30 minutes sounds awesome to me--go get it!
ReplyDeleteWay to go! You can definitely run a sub 30!
ReplyDeleteHey Andrew, thanks for stopping by. And reminding me that thesis and beer ain't all bad.. I love the fact that you profited from an "I'm late" mentality. Maybe starting at the back of a run-walk charity event would have the same effect!? Good luck going for the sub-30 5k!
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the heart rate info that you posted on my blog, that does help. I've been reading a lot of running books recently, and to me it seems like heartrate is a major key to race success because that way you never run either above or below your abilities, because you run at the heartrate range you should be at. I realize that I likely run my races at too high a heartrate, normally I'm at 180 in races, and my max is around 200 it seems like (90% of max). I'll try to gather more info from other people to see what their ranges look like...
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the 5k goal! You can do it!
ReplyDeleteExcellent run. I hate those late runs on a weekday night.
ReplyDeleteSub 30 set up, now work hard to knock it down.
So how can we motivate you?
ReplyDeleteCarrot? Stick?
You can do it Andrew!!!!
ReplyDelete11 deg at 10:20 p.m. You are an animal. Will you please change your Blog to: The Studliest Runner? Please. Two reasons; 1) it would be a great joke on Marcia; 2) you are. Pretty plase.
ReplyDeleteGreat run Andrew. You can do it.
ReplyDeleteLove your blog....! I'm your new follower. Please visit my blog and I really appreciate if you can leave a comment and follow me back. Thanks and have a nice day...
ReplyDeletehttp://interestingplace1.blogspot.com
that is awesome, you'll do it, I know it.
ReplyDeleteCheers to sub 30!! 11 degrees. -23 here today. When is 50 degrees gonna be here!!! Great job on knockin' off the run at almost 10:30! Determined:)
ReplyDeleteIf you can run two miles at 10 pace after running two miles at 11 pace, then I think that you should be able to string together 3 9:30 miles in a race setting. 29 min or bust!!!
ReplyDelete(Btw, I'm feeling the lack of meaning full races too. I sort of have a case of the running 'blahs')
What could you be late for at 10:22 PM? Bedtime perhaps? If you train smart enough and hard enough, you can get that sub 30 min 5k!
ReplyDeleteI wonder how you get to sleep after such a late run. Hope the running is still going strong. :)
