Being the most blessed guy in the Universe, I'm gonna share the coach's advice on my Heel Strike.
From the coach: turn the sound off - it's misleading and "Notice the video on the right the foot is relying on the footwear to dissipate force. The video on the left the foot is plantarflexing to reach for the ground. One foot is anticipating the other is reacting to the ground."
And Jill's favorite (and the drills I'll be doing on that plush grass near work):

i dunno about running barefoot. *sigh* running is hard enough...lol

I'm fairly certain I'm going to buy a pair of Nike Free Run shoes very soon. I was considering the vibram FFs but I'm a little nervous to jump straight to that.
Running barefoot is a lot of fun. Takes time to get used to it but worth the effort. Really.
Barefoot Ken Bob Saxton's new book is a realistic look at moving to BFing it, recommended.
Adopt slowly but do adopt!
I'm gonna have to come back to that last video when I don't have a giggle of girls in the house dancing to Istanbul and I can listen.
I am going to start the Couch to 5K during my cross-training days in my VFF's and get my oldest at the track with me. I figure by October I should have a good fore foot strike.
Thanks for sharing, Andrew. I'm not giving up my shoes any time soon (ever), but we can all use the drills to help with our foot strike.
Thanks for sharing! I saved the videos to go over them again later on.
Moses and I talked about the whole heel striking thing.
He said the Kenyan coaches have them do a lot of uphill running and it's nearly impossible to heel strike going uphill.
I have also heard that the Kenyan coaches tie raw meat to the waists of their runners and open up cages of cheetahs that haven't been fed in two weeks. Seems to really improve their runner's motivation.
I don't believe it's the shoes. If it was everyone with shoes would be heel strikers and that's not so. It's the runner. I'm one that don't believe the barefoot/minimalist craze will last very long. Over time (5 years or so) it won't be good unless you don't run much distance.
Whatever happened to moderation? It's always either/or these days. Miss Zippy and Johann's comments resonate...
I don't understand this barefoot/minimalist forefoot strike crazy. I have spent years as a minimalist only to be hurt constantly. I have been a forefoot runner since I started running, it is very inefficient when I get to the longer stuff, I would give anything to be able to be even a moderate heal striker. So much easier on the legs and achilles.
Sounds good :)
