About

This blog is about me and my training for my first 5k running race in Guelph Ontario. I am going to run it on my 45th Birthday on September 25, 2010.

I'm 5'11" and I weigh about 270 lbs.  I break a sweat showering under cold water.

I'm married to a wonderful patient woman and our home has a revolving door for all the weird and wacky people and animals that live with us.  I have just finished an Executive MBA program at Ivey and have so much time on my hands that I think I need to get another job or something!  Even though I'm the owner manager of a small software start-up company, training for a 5k race was an obvious choice.

I knew from early on in my training that I liked running!  When I was flying, there was a time in my training when we worked on slow flight, and edge-of-the-envelope flight characteristics.  It basically was a quiet time when you sat in the plane and experimented with its capabilities near where things catastrophically fail.  The purpose was to teach yourself how to perform in this area and bring the plane back to "inside" of the safety envelope.  Running is like that for me.  I get to some point in every run, where it is TOO far, TOO fast, TOO strenuous, and I like trying to take it further in the next run.

I ran my 5k race - I sprinted the last 150 meters and finished in the last third of the pack.

I ran a 5k with 3,000 Santa's in Burlington.

I't been a year since I ran with my wife for the first time on June 15, 2010.  In this last year of running, I ran through about 65 lbs., 6 inches of waistline, 3 pairs of shoes, three wrist watches, and 8 races!

I'm not sure, but I think I'm hooked!
