Moving Day

Last night I scrambled to get myself packed and partially moved to finish up today.  Not only did I move my office I got an office in another building!  [Ok, I'm making this sound great - but it's not really.  I finished 18 months in a sensory deprivation tank and now I'm working out of my home office until my new office is ready down town.]  The good thing about my home office is that I have signed pictures (by Jan Zurakowski) and posters on my wall of the Avro Arrow, plus some memorabilia from the engineering crew that went on to NASA in the 50s.

Plus I have a really old globe that was made a long time ago - how long ago?  Well just past the canary islands there's a note in Latin "Here be monsters!", plus no Americas and no Australia. And to top it off I have a framed motivational sign from Magellan:

The sea is dangerous and its storms terrible.  But these obstacles have never been sufficient reason to remain ashore ... Unlike the mediocre, intrepid spirits seek victory over those things that seem impossible ... It is with an iron will that they embark, on the most daring of all endeavors ... to meet the shadowy future without fear and conquer the unknown.

I sense some running motivation coming up.  Help me out guys ... I have one week of running left - then 3 days of rest and then my first race in my LIFE!  I have one question - I want to make a shirt up for my race that says my running pace and I want to put your names on it - all of you.  You got me here and I want people to know that you did it with me - how do you want me to write your name?

=====

I did my tempo run, but I'm ashamed to say I did not give it my dedicated effort - it was soundless, didn't hydrate or eat well before, and I did a lot of heavy lifting and stair climbing the night before.  5k (3.1 mi) at a 6:51/k pace (10:58/mi).

Wonderful quote. Don't worry too much about a bad tempo run, I have one of those every week (and I only do one tempo run a week).

Loving the Magellan quote. I'm excited to hear all about your 1st race!! Best of luck to you. You are prepared and ready and you'll do awesome. If you want to write NRR or Adrienne, either one is fine. I don't know how to translate that into Canadian though :)

I am super-de-duper excited for your race! And how fun that you are making up a shirt and putting our names on it! LOVE IT! It's like we'll all be there with you! Hmmmm. Rae or 5K Rae??? I just don't know! Either one is fine with me. If there are multiple Raes going on the shirt, then do 5K Rae to distinguish me. :) You have to post a pic when it's made!

I was thinking something simple and catchy but something that also rhymes. Something like:
“That Ridiculously Good Looking , Charming and Uber Fast Q”
Or just “Q”
Yeah…maybe just “Q”

I'm very excited to hear about your first race. :) You can add Kandi to your list.

How awesome that your race is almost here! You are going to have a blast.

How about "Jill stalks me in dark alleys as she smokes her cigs and makes sure I am out there doing what needs to be done"?? I like it!

Woohoo! Race time is almost here!

I'd be honored if you'd add Crazy Penguin or Tiina to the list :)

I thought about you yesterday when a guy at the gym started walking backwards on the treadmill, I think he was stealing your angle.

The Turtle wishes you much success in your first race.

YEAH! Race time is getting close!! I rarely have a good tempo run, I always feel like I got run over by a moose afterwords! :) BEST OF LUCK in your race!

OH and put my name down somewhere with a big-assed smiley face!!! :)

Yay for first races. They are so much fun and worth the effort! I can't wait to hear about yours. When I did my first I put my name in big letters on the front of my shirt, it was amazing to hear total strangers yelling out, "Go Jen go!"

How awesome that this is your first race! Now we can both say we ran our first races in 2010!

I'm not sure that I am worthy of a shirt posting since I'm new to the scene, but if so, just something humble like "Karen Rocks" or "Cinderella Rules" will be fine - my blog is about glass slippers, after all :)

Sounds like you have a pretty cool home office. Don't need to write my name on your shirt since this is my first post, but I would bet my old globe (which stops just BEFORE the Canary Islands) that your first race will be awesome.

I've always wanted to be refered to as "El Jefe". But, no one has replied to this request. Maybe that is why I am single. Can your write: Chris "El Jefe" Korn.

That is a fantastic quote! I love maps and globes of all times and ages.

Wow, the race is almost here! That is awesome! You can just put Johann or Johann - SA. I'll be honored to be on your first race shirt.

I am confused, what day is the race. I am trying to count days in my head. Saturday or Sunday? Your post says 3 days then race (written on the 15th) but the ticker on the right says 8 days, now I just all confused.

You can credit mine to Mr. Lucas R. Tucker, M.P.A., B.S., C.C.M., P.E.R.T., E.M.T.-B, R.T., R.T.R., R.T.C.S., R.T.S.W., SARTECH II, Esquire or the SUPER fatlete...your choice.

Very cool that your race is coming up so soon! Don't worry about one tempo run that didn't go as planned. You'll be all rested up and ready to go on race day, just don't do any crazy lifting or stair climbs the day before :)

This is totally random, but just saw that you are a recent EMBA grad and wanted to say congrats- that's a huge accomplishment! Two of my co-workers did EMBA programs (Univ of Pittsburgh) while I did an evening part-time MBA (Carnegie Mellon) and we often compared notes on which program was more difficult... in the end, I think it came down to if you preferred short and super intense, or drawn out and semi-intense!

Good luck on your first race ever!

That tempo speed was speedy even though you're kinda lukewarm about it.

I hijacked a lady last Sunday and now, I run with her and another person. It has its pros and cons. I think I am going to reserve speed work/tempo runs for solo runs. The company helps with the long runs. Kinda breaks the monotony up.

Name? Hmm ... "Lace it Up and Run?" "Don't drop your shoe. Lace it up!" I'm not very creative.

My friends call me Adam. You can call me Adam.

Bad runs are the runs that wake us up to how good the good ones are.

Very cool on the old map. Old stuff is cool....especially if it smells old.
